BEHIND THE NAMES
Our cottages
All of our cottages at Thief Hall are named after famous highwaymen and characters from local folklore.
The venue is located on Thief Hole Lane and it is rumoured that highwaymen and thieves hid in a large hollow at the end of the lane. They would watch for travellers and wagons passing along the old London to Edinburgh road, ready to strike before disappearing back into the countryside.
Whether fact or folklore, these tales have become part of the character of Thief Hall and inspired the names of our cottages, celebrating the mystery, adventure and history of this unique corner of North Yorkshire.
